On Friday 24 May, Tim Fowler will open his first Dutch solo exhibition 'Organic Contemplations' in Kunsthuis Amsterdam.

The young British artist has quickly captured the attention of the international art world. Through his semi-abstract paintings, Fowler tells a story rooted in his own heritage, with migrating plants following his DNA from West Africa to the Caribbean and finally to the UK. His work is characterised by large canvases that overwhelm the viewer with powerful compositions, executed in a colourful palette that has become Tim’s signature.

Tim uses a variety of media, including oil, acrylic, spray paint, enamel and graffiti ink. Despite the vibrant nature of his work and the bright and intense hues that make his work unmistakably recognizable, Tim always manages to maintain a subtle balance. With abstract fragments, bold marks, broken lines and free strokes, Tim builds up his work to create contours and features. This approach goes beyond a literal representation, using color as an expression of inner musings.

Tim’s unique and experimental signature results in a fascinating and previously unseen body of work with diverse subjects, ranging from botanical elements and architectural structures to intimate family moments. His artworks and subjects are deliberately abstracted and built up by Fowler in a richness of colour to emphasise their beauty.
